Independent and Private School 11 Plus Exams Preparation
Many good day schools around the country have an entry at 11 Plus into year 7.
What are Independent selective schools looking for?
Independent Schools tend to look at more than just the results of an 11 Plus entrance exam but that doesn’t mean that children won’t be expected to do well, some schools are very selective academically.
In most cases where Independent Schools test for Verbal Reasoning or Non-Verbal Reasoning they will buy in tests from GL, or produce tests themselves which are very similar to GL tests.
Independent schools all tend to have separate school written English tests which include topics such as comprehension and vocabulary and punctuation and spelling. These tests tend to use classic English texts and are often not in multiple choice form. Most Independent school 11 Plus exams will also include a creative writing section.
Independent School Maths tests tend to be school written but will cover the same ground as Grammar School tests. Where they differ is that there may be some difficult questions towards the end which demand real talent ( the school will use these to separate the scholars from the ordinarily bright).
Independent School Non-Verbal Reasoning tests tend to be all bought in and tend to be all written by GL. A normal Non-Verbal Reasoning preparation will suffice.
Learning Street has provided some 11 plus mock exam tests for those schools that have a school written English and Mathematics exam. These have been linked below.
