Nature of the 11 Plus in Kent.

While GL will continue to produce the test in Kent they will not now produce sample papers. This is intended to make the test less predictable.

Naturally though they want the test to be assess children effectively by ability and they will want to use much of the Primary School syllabus to do so. In short children who have learnt well and who have done some effective preparation will  continue to perform better than those that don’t.

For instance, any Verbal Reasoning test will reward children who have a wide vocabulary, those who have read every day and done some vocabulary extension work will naturally be better placed to do well than children who haven’t.

Equally any Maths test will reward children with solid and rapid times tables ability, who know the four operations inside out and who have learnt to work quickly and accurately. If they have also done lots of mental maths work and problem solving then they will do very much better than if they had done little preparation.

So the Kent test is intended to be more difficult to prepare for but there are still lots of sensible ways to prepare for the test and give children the best chance of success.

See our page on Kent 11 Plus Preparation to see what we suggest might be sensible to look at.

Official Kent past papers aren’t available but we’ll show you which practice papers are best to use.
