What are the most common reasons for dropping marks in a verbal reasoning test?

Every specialist tutor will tell you that the most common reason for dropping marks at VR is a weak vocabulary. If you compare the standard 21 question type test vs the CEM type test then in both cases the questions where children are asked for synonyms (words which mean the same as another words) or antonyms (opposites) or compound words or odd one out will be where the most mistakes are made. Children with a strong vocabulary will do better than children without a strong vocabulary on these tests.
