Background to the 11 Plus Exam in Hertfordshire

There are four Grammar Schools in Hertfordshire that children will need to take an 11 Plus Exam to get into.

Hertfordshire 11 Plus Exam Format Details

St Clement Danes School, Watford Grammar School for Boys and Watford Grammar School for Girls fall into the South West Hertfordshire consortium and therefore all follow the same 11plus exam set by GL Assessment. This is made up of two papers including:

  • Mathematics Paper
  • Verbal Reasoning Paper

Dame Alice Owen’s School 11 plus entrance exam consists of two separate parts. The top 325 candidates are invited back to stage two.

  • Stage 1 – Verbal Reasoning paper set by GL Assessment
  • Stage 2 – Two Papers, one on English and the other on Mathematics
